TLA Hosts TVLP French and Spanish Languages Event

The Langley Academy was proud to host the TVLP French and Spanish languages event for 142 students in Years 9 and 10 from across 8 schools in the Thames Valley Learning Partnership on Wednesday 30 November 2022.

To start, we were greeted by a feast of French and Spanish foods, including different cheeses, meats, potato gratin, soup, and olive cake.

We all then made our way into the theatre, where the TVLP Coordinator, Clare, delivered a travel presentation, highlighting some of the countries across the world that speak French and Spanish as a main language. Following this, we were given the task to design our own tourism postcard.

A guest speaker, Dr Marion Joassin, a French tutor from Royal Holloway, University of London, talked about studying languages at university and the career paths this can open up.

Then it was the French Spelling Bee final, with 7 students from Herschel Grammar School, Holyport College, The Langley Academy, The Windsor Boys' School, and Windsor Girls' School going head-to-head to win the competition.

Harijeeth wrote this about the event: "L'assemblée TVLP de toutes les écoles à mon avis a été un énorme succès, la nourriture était vraiment délicieuse et unique, mais de loin, ma préférée serait la baguette au fromage de chèvre et beurre sur le côté de l'omelette espagnole. Des choses comme ça ne sont pas quelque chose que vous mangeriez tous les jours. Le concours d'orthographe était l'une des choses les plus rares que j'ai vues à cause des 2 gagnants à la fin. Cependant, je dois dire que l'atmosphere était très tendue à cause de la tension, mais avoir 2 gagnants était magnifique. Les petites activités qui pouvaient sembler inutiles ont vraiment aplani les difficultés entre les écoles. Dans l'ensemble, je dirais que c'était un moment vraiment agréable et charmant, et j'aimerais en voir plus."

We were very proud that Dinesh made it into the final. He performed extremely well under the pressure of a big audience. Well done!
